VACANCY - Field Calibration Engineer

Background

Don Whitley Scientific Limited (DWS) is a leading supplier of innovative equipment to the microbiology and tissue/cell culture industries worldwide. The company develops, manufactures, markets and services instrumentation and associated products for the public and private sector – primarily used in hospitals, public health laboratories and research institutions.

The company was founded 40 years ago and remains a family owned, independent business.


The Position

A vacancy has arisen for a home-based calibration engineer to work throughout the UK. The vacancy has arisen because the current job holder retires during 2017. The role is available with immediate effect as the company desires a period of overlap between the outgoing and incoming job holders.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a presentable, knowledgeable and personable company ambassador.

  • Have a minimum of 5 years' experience performing temperature related calibrations to UKAS requirements.

  • Have some experience of working with autoclaves.

  • Be able to work unsupervised.

  • Have a clean driving licence.

  • Prepare UKAS certificates for calibration work carried out.

  • Have some experience of Microsoft Office and basic IT skills.

  • Be an authorised signatory (training will be provided, if required).

  • Promote the DWS UKAS business.

  • Receive a competitive salary with an annual review.

  • Be supplied with a quality estate car/van.

  • Have the option of benefitting from subsidised private healthcare insurance (after a qualifying period).

  • Be provided with other appropriate training as required.

VACANCY - Field Service Engineer

Background

The company develops, manufactures, markets and services instrumentation and associated products for the public and private sector – primarily used in hospitals, public health laboratories and research institutions.

The company was founded 40 years ago and remains a family owned, independent business.

The Position

A vacancy has arisen for a service engineer to cover London and the South East. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of after sales service, product installation and customer training.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a presentable, knowledgeable and personable company ambassador.

  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years experience of fault diagnosis and repair of instruments, sub-assemblies and components – and previous experience as a field service engineer.

  • Demonstrate a wide range of knowledge and expertise drawn from as many of the following areas as possible, beginning with the most important – Fault diagnosis on electrical, electromechanical and electronic sub-assemblies; performance analysis on temperature measurement, sensing and control systems; fault finding on mains and low voltage electrical control equipment and power supplies, pneumatic actuators and associated control equipment; handling of bottled industrial gases and their associated regulators, pressure switches, flow valves and controls, vacuum control, regulators and switches; small AC and DC motor and stepper motor control; computer hardware and software operating systems as appropriate for industrial control systems; uploading and downloading operational software on programmable logic controllers (PLC)s;  fault finding on PLCs; portable appliance testing; industrial vision/digital camera systems.

  • Qualify as a calibration engineer for temperature-related products to UKAS requirements - full training will be provided.

  • Be able to work unsupervised.

  • Have a clean driving licence.

  • Possess a passport (occasional overseas travel may be required).

  • Have some experience of Microsoft Office and basic IT skills.

  • Provide weekend and public holiday cover as part of a rota involving all our field-based service engineers.

  • Obtain sales leads and promote the sale of DWS service contracts.

  • Receive comprehensive product training.

  • Receive a competitive salary with an annual review.

  • Be supplied with a quality estate car/van.

  • After a qualifying period, have the option of benefitting from subsidised private healthcare insurance and be given the opportunity to join the company pension scheme.
