VACANCY - Technical Sales Representative


As a Technical Sales Representative you will promote an exciting range of laboratory equipment and service contracts. Brands include Whitley Anaerobic, Hypoxic and Microaerophilic Workstations, Whitley Automated Spiral Plater plus products such as autoclaves, media/sample preparation equipment and other niche laboratory equipment.

This role will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to further develop an established customer base and build a long-term, lucrative career in the UK. Our export sales are increasing year-on-year and, having gained sufficient experience, it is expected that the successful candidate will also be involved in ad hoc overseas visits.

Candidates with no previous sales experience will be considered as training will be provided. A high level of support will also be available from senior colleagues.

The territory encompassed by this role includes the north of England and Scotland.

Core responsibilities as a Technical Sales Representative:

  • Maximising sales potential and business growth by establishing relationships and collaborations with customers.

  • Working closely with marketing to ensure relevant promotions are delivered to customers and that feedback from customers is relayed back to inform future planning.

Essential Requirements:

  • Highly motivated and ambitious.

  • Hands-on approach and comfortable with daily travel.

  • Articulate, confident communicator able to engage with all people at all levels, including technical managers and procurement/finance personnel.

  • Independent and decisive, using creative thought and sound logic to identify, prioritise and maximise opportunities.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience as a laboratory technician in microbiology, molecular biology, biomedical science or similar scientific discipline.

  • Some previous sales experience.

VACANCY - Field Service Engineer


Don Whitley Scientific Limited (DWS) is a leading supplier of innovative equipment to the microbiology and tissue/cell culture industry worldwide. The company develops, manufactures, markets and services instrumentation and associated products for the public and private sector – primarily used in hospitals, public health laboratories and research institutions.

The company was founded 40 years ago and remains a family owned, independent business.

The Position

A vacancy has arisen for a service engineer to cover London and the South East. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of after sales service, product installation and customer training.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a presentable, knowledgeable and personable company ambassador.

  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years experience of fault diagnosis and repair of instruments, sub-assemblies and components – and previous experience as a field service engineer.

  • Demonstrate a wide range of knowledge and expertise drawn from as many of the following areas as possible, beginning with the most important – Fault diagnosis on electrical, electromechanical and electronic sub-assemblies; performance analysis on temperature measurement, sensing and control systems; fault finding on mains and low voltage electrical control equipment and power supplies, pneumatic actuators and associated control equipment; handling of bottled industrial gases and their associated regulators, pressure switches, flow valves and controls, vacuum control, regulators and switches; small AC and DC motor and stepper motor control; computer hardware and software operating systems as appropriate for industrial control systems; uploading and downloading operational software on programmable logic controllers (PLC)s;  fault finding on PLCs; portable appliance testing; industrial vision/digital camera systems.

  • Qualify as a calibration engineer for temperature-related products to UKAS requirements - full training will be provided.

  • Be able to work unsupervised.

  • Have a clean driving licence.

  • Possess a passport (occasional overseas travel may be required).

  • Have some experience of Microsoft Office and basic IT skills.

  • Provide weekend and public holiday cover as part of a rota involving all our field-based service engineers.

  • Obtain sales leads and promote the sale of DWS service contracts.

  • Receive comprehensive product training.
