08/06/07 - Whitley VA500 Workstation Testimonial Company Name: Sheffield University Customer: Professor David Kelly Professor David J Kelly, Chair of Microbial Physiology at the University of Sheffield, has been using Don Whitley Scientific equipment for many years. He is currently researching the physiology of Campylobacter and Helicobacter and the characterisation of bacterial solute transport systems.
Says Professor Kelly: “We have a Mk 3 workstation and three Whitley VA500s in the microbiology laboratory here at Sheffield University. They are all used for growing Campylobacter jejuni.
The use of these cabinets has enabled us to carry out more sophisticated experiments and to manipulate these oxygen sensitive bacteria whilst they are growing in optimum conditions. Manipulations include DNA extractions, DNA clean up processes, mutagenesis and protein purifications.
Growing the bacteria in the cabinet rather than in jars (which is really the only other option) means that the growth conditions are highly consistent and bacteria will not be stressed but will perform more like they would in the host. Using the cabinets ensures our results are more robust and reliable.”
Use of these cabinets is really essential for Professor Kelly and his team for performing modern molecular biology experiments with oxygen sensitive pathogens in order to get consistent growth conditions.
Professor Kelly states that the main reasons for choosing Don Whitley Scientific products were the “excellent reputation of the company and high specification of the cabinets.” He also added that: “After sales service has been consistently excellent.” click here for the full listing |
